Where exactly does the 2011 BMW K1300S fit in the motorcycling firmament? There is no doubt whatsoever that it's a shining star as one of the most advanced, refined, and exquisitely engineered heavyweight super sports bikes in the history of humanity, but if you do have to place it in relation to other (and some may say lesser) stars, you would want to fit it somewhere between the Suzuki Hayabusa and the Kawasaki Concours 14. It's a superlative sports tourer that can absolutely rip up the track a la Hayabusa. If you're in the market for what many can consider the ultimate sports bike in the 2011 model year, you may now deplane as you have most certainly arrived in Bavaria.
The BMW K1300S' stunning 1,293 cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke in-line four-cylinder-engine features four valves per cylinder, two overhead camshafts, dry sump lubrication, a bore and stroke of 80 mm x 64.3 mm, a compression ratio at a jaw-dropping 13.0:1 (racing fuel anyone?) and a conservative factory power rating of 175 hp at 9,250 rpm and torque 103 foot pounds at 8,250 rpm. This rabid amount of power is generated even though the electronic intake pipe injection and digital engine management including BMS-K knock sensor runs with a closed-loop 3-way catalytic converter to meet the extremely strict Euro 3 emission standard. The BMW K1300S is green as well as mean (sorry Kawasaki for appropriating your slogan).
