Less weight plus more torque equals fun-filled riding. Ideal for riders who want to make the ultimate lifestyle expression, this jewel of style and performance is powered by the charismatic two-valve 1100cc Desmodromic twin-cylinder engine, famous the world over for its legendary torque and smooth acceleration. For 2011, the Monster 1100 is updated with a new subframe ready to accept the passenger-friendly grab-rail accessory created by Ducati Performance and is available also in an enhanced ‘S’ specification, both versions with optional ABS. The ‘less-is-more’ philosophy behind all Monsters underlines Ducati’s continuous pursuit of genuinely compact, high performance motorcycles and with the Monster 1100’s dry weight at 373lb (169kg) it represents the lightest bike in its category. Today’s Monster family is the result of constant evolution in design and technology. The powerful and breathtaking top-of-the-range models sport attractive ergonomics and present pure style and charisma, while preserving the essence of the original naked bike concept. The Monster 1100 design perfectly balances sports performance, riding pleasure and stunning looks and its seductive line is the product of a Ducati philosophy where form and function combine to create the naked bike par excellence.
Pure riding pleasure is guaranteed with super-light and agile handling characteristics combined with the exceptional torque of the Desmo engine and a competition-level braking system. At just 169kg (373lb), the Monster 1100 is the lightest bike in its class. The exceptional handling, combined with 10.5kgm (75.9lb-ft) of torque from the Ducati Desmo engine, results in a pure, adrenalin-filled ride. With a 40mm higher ride-height than the 696, the increased ground clearance of the Monster 1100 enables impressive lean angles, to fully reveal the sports side of this naked bike. The extremely lightweight aluminium alloy Y-shaped, 5-spoke wheels reduce unsprung weight and improve agility and are fitted with a 120/70ZR tyre at the front and a 180/55ZR at the rear, both Pirelli Diablo Rosso. The result is lightweight, precise steering that is extremely responsive at all speeds while giving the vehicle exceptional stability. The sports character of the bike is further accentuated by aluminium tapered handlebars. The 43mm fully adjustable Showa forks and Sachs rising-rate rear suspension unit, with adjustable spring pre-load and return damping, offer sufficient personalisation to suit all riding styles and provide that perfect ‘feel’. The steeply angled rear unit compresses in a movement non-linear to the rear swingarm radius, which achieves progressive characteristics, enables easy access to the spring pre-load and rebound damping adjuster, and eliminates the weight of any rocker-arm mechanism. The Trellis frame, developed in conjunction with Ducati Corse uses the same tube diameter and thickness as the 1198 SP. The brand new lightweight aluminium sub-frame maintains visual continuity with the aluminium footrest hangers and swingarm, and now accepts the passenger-friendly grab-rail kit available from Ducati Performance. The kit further enhances passenger ride comfort without compromising the Monster’s stylish lines. The power of the Monster 1100 can rely upon a best-in-category braking system that provides excellent, precise and controllable braking performance. The impressive Brembo system features radial pumps with adjustable levers feeding four-piston radial callipers which grip twin 320mm discs. The rear brake uses a 2- piston calliper operating on a 245mm disc. An optional ABS system is also available to add extra confidence in all conditions. The beautifully shaped single-sided swingarm gives the Monster a ‘pure sports’ look while ensuring higher rigidity, reduced weight and enhanced road holding. The swingarm is in chill-cast aluminium and achieves the best mechanical characteristics while reducing final weight for improved handling. The two-valve engine on the Monster 1100 features lightweight crankcases produced using the same innovative Vacural® technology that Ducati first introduced on the Superbike 848 and achieves significant weight saving while ensuring consistent wall thickness and increased strength. The 1100 engine boasts a 98mm bore and a 71.5mm stroke, delivering 95hp at 7500rpm and an impressive torque of 10.5kgm (79.5lb-ft) at 6000rpm. To underline the sports character of the bike, the new Monster 1100 is fitted with Ducati’s very own dry clutch, which offers a variety of customisation options with the Ducati Performance accessories. The Monster 1100 has a specially designed exhaust system featuring an electronically controlled exhaust valve that enables the use of silencers similar to those of the 696. The system has one lambda probe dedicated to each cylinder, enabling precise fuelling for a smoother power delivery while complying with current emission regulations. The Monster 1100 is available in three colour schemes of red or silver with red Trellis frame or black with matte black frame. All three colours are set against elegant looking silver wheels. Powerunit Engine

Desmodromics
The incredible valve performances of our engines are only possible because of Ducati's unique Desmodromic system, where valve closure is activated mechanically. At high rpm it would be almost impossible for the valve to follow the steep closure profile of the cam lobe if it were relying upon a normal valve spring. With the Desmo system, the valve is closed mechanically with the same accuracy as it is opened, enabling steep cam profiles and radical cam timings. This system is used on every single Ducati power unit including our world-beating Superbike and Desmosedici MotoGP engines.

Exhaust system
Providing a deep and rich exhaust tone within current noise and emissions regulations is no mean feat, but the Monster definitely provides the L-Twin sound famous of Ducati. Its bold, high-level twin mufflers also make a striking style statement. The exhaust system has one Lambda probe dedicated to each cylinder, enabling precise fuelling for a smoother power delivery as well as complying with current emission regulations. The Monster 1100 has a specially designed exhaust system which features an electronically controlled exhaust valve.

Vacural® crankcases
The two-valve engine on the Monster 1100 features an all-new crankcase which significantly reduces overall engine weight. They are produced using the same innovative Vacural® technology that Ducati previously applied only to Supersport models. This method of production relies on vacuum die-casting, which improves the quality of the casting by avoiding porosity, air pockets and oxidation. This enables greater dimensional accuracy and higher ductility for the aluminium alloy. Ducati designers have drawn upon the benefits of this innovative process, redefining the conformation and thickness of the sides on the new crankcase using finite element simulations (FEM) and tests, which resulted in achieving the required reliability standards as well as attaining a significant weight reduction of 3kg (6.6lb) compared to previous versions of the 1100cc engines.

Lightweight 5-spoke wheels
With a 40mm higher ride-height than the 696, the increased ground clearance of the Monster 1100 enables impressive lean angles, letting you explore the sports side of this new naked bike to the full. The extremely lightweight aluminium alloy Y-shaped, 5-spoke wheels reduce unsprung weight and improve agility. The 3.50x17 front wheel is fitted with a 120/70ZR tyre while the rear 5.50x17 wheel has a 180/55ZR. Sachs rear suspension
The Sachs rising-rate rear suspension unit offers adjustable spring pre-load and return damping. Using the proven ‘cantilever’ system, the steeply angled rear unit compresses in a movement non-linear to the rear swingarm radius, thus achieving a progressive action. This enables easy access to the spring pre-load and rebound damping adjuster, while eliminating the weight of the rocker-arm mechanism.

Monster Trellis
An immensely strong but light tubular steel Trellis frame with aluminium rear sub-frame is the visual and structural backbone of the Monster. Delivering unparalleled rigidity with minimal mass, the chassis design is pure Ducati in its ingenuity and simplicity. A separate, all aluminium sub-frame saves weight and adds a pleasing continuity with the aluminium footrest hangers and matte finished swingarm.

Ergonomics
The heavily tapered and deeply sculpted fuel tank cover allows maximum comfort and control. The narrowing of the bike's ‘waist’ has the same effect as lowering the seat height, making it easier for more riders to get both feet flat on the floor. The steering-lock is vastly improved with a useful 64 degrees of lock-to-lock steering travel. Incredible attention to detail has gone into maximising the effective steering-lock.

Empowering Controls
The Monster 1100 features radial pumps with adjustable levers on beautifully shaped aluminium tapered handlebars.

Instrumentation
Visually simple digital instrumentation provides an array of data on command or, at a glance, just speed and revs. Information available at your fingertip include: scheduled maintenance warning, oil temperature, trip odometer, lap time, fuel reserve, warning light for low oil pressure, turn signals, over-rev warning, immobilizer and neutral warning light.

ABS
For the first time since its debut, the Ducati Monster will be available with ABS (anti-lock braking system). Unlike the majority of motorcycle ABS set-ups, this system has the advantage of ensuring a more natural braking ‘feel’ for the rider. ABS system is available as an optional.

DDA ready
The instrument display also doubles as a control panel for the activation of the Ducati Data Analyser (DDA) system, which is available as an accessory from Ducati Performance. The bike has been built ‘system-ready’ for the data acquisition kit, which consists of special DDA software and a memory key that slots into a plug under the seat. The same plug also doubles as the connection for a handy new battery charger available as an accessory from Ducati Performance.

Stopwatch
The digital display is programmed with a stopwatch function that, when enabled, can be triggered by using the high-beam flash button and each recorded time stored in a memory. After your journey or track session, the times or lap times can be recalled from the memory and scrolled through by using the instrumentation buttons on the left-hand switchgear.

LED taillight
An LED rear light unit satisfies the minimalist, weight-saving design ethos found throughout the Monster 696. The specially designed strip of LEDs are enhanced by a special diffuser lens to deliver outstanding light clarity and incredible longevity.

Headlight
The triple-parabola headlight on the Monster 696 utilises the latest optical technology and advanced construction techniques to provide an incredibly compact lighting package. In spite of its compact size, the headlight throws a broad and deep beam to provide excellent visibility and make night riding safer. Viewed from the side, its discrete silhouette mimics the radical shape of the fuel tank.

Standard FeaturesThe 2011 Monster family now offers all models with optional anti-lock braking system (ABS).
The ABS developed by Ducati and offered as an option on the entire Monster family is the most
sophisticated version available in motorcycling. Designed to reduce the risk of wheel-lock under heavy
braking or when braking in low grip conditions, the system reads wheel speed data from phonic wheel
sensors to detect potential wheel lock. If the wheel speed differential falls below a specific safety limit, the control unit immediately reduces the brake system pressure to the appropriate calliper to avoid wheel lock.
The pressure reduction on each individual braking circuit is activated by electronically controlled valves, which then close as the wheel speed differential moves away from a locking scenario.

Looking clean and minimalist in true Monster style, the brightly illuminated display provides all essential
data by default, and even more by scrolling with the left-hand switchgear. Data includes speed, revs, time, scheduled maintenance, oil temperature and battery voltage, while warning lights illuminate for oil pressure, fuel reserve, turn indicators, high beam and neutral selection. In addition, the instruments present a reserve fuel trip, immobiliser status and automatic light-off function after 60 seconds with the key on as well as a memory to store lap times recorded by using the high-beam flash button as a stopwatch.
The display also doubles as a control panel for the activation of the Ducati Data Analyser (DDA) system, which is available as an accessory from Ducati Performance.
